Penrose is geared towards a particular type of audiences; you either love it or hate it. It is entirely text-driven and strongly resembles a novel, with intervenable spaces which will drive the story in a different direction. The simplistic nature of text allows more freedom and possibilities in narrative branching, but could turn off a lot of non-readers. It is not a full-length novel, but leaves enough room for multiple drastically differing timelines, and probably too little for character study. It doesn't break new grounds and will not win any writing awards, but there are moments of brilliance and interesting experimentations, which is why it is in the first place.
Probably not a masterpiece, but worth trying.
